WEEKLY SHARE UPDATE: Stock prices keep moving up strongly

Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index showed an impressive increment of 7.65 points this week. The weekly share trading at the country’s sole secondary market started at 325.35 points on Sunday and went up to 333.03 points on the last day of trading under the regular lot.

Mero Mobile to waive basic rental charge

Spice Nepal Private Limited (SNPL), the operator of Mero Mobile brand of mobile phones, has announced waiver in minimum rental charge - fixed at Rs 500 - on post-paid services from the next week.
Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of SNPL, Ruslan Zhukeyev said that the scheme will come into effect from Monday, February 13, and would be applicable to all the subscribers. “New clients who procure Mero Mobile connection by April 13 2006 will also enjoy the facility,” he told the Post.

IRD to enforce excise stickers soon

After much controversy and a delay of over a year, the government is finally set to enforce the program of labeling excise stickers on liquor bottles and cigarette packs.
“Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has completed all necessary procedures,” said Acting Director General of IRD, Rana Bahadur Shrestha.

It is a fight between the King and the people

Krishna Pahadi: The human rights situation is deteriorating day by day since the state itself is involved in extra-judicial killings, detention and torture of innocent people. And no perpetrators of these crimes have been brought to book so far. Impunity is a major problem. The King-led government is heading towards more dictatorial rule by imposing a media ordinance and the NGO code of conduct.
