EU, Serbia continue talks April 5

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro (UPI) -- Belgrade`s agreement Friday to arrest war crimes suspect Gen. Ratko Mladic paved the way for planned talks on Serbia joining the European Union.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said in Brussels that association and stabilization talks with Serbia will continue Wednesday as scheduled, Belgrade media reported.

Addressing reporters after talks with Carla Del Ponte, chief prosecutor of the U.N. tribunal, Rehn said Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica had agreed to arrest and hand over Mladic to The Hague tribunal.

Del Ponte visited Belgrade Wednesday and stressed the importance of cooperation, warning the EU might suspend accession talks if Belgrade refused to do so.Mladic is sought on genocide and war crimes charges.
