Moffat moves to France from Borders

THE Borders have lost another first-choice player with Stuart Moffat confirming he is to join French club Castres at the end of the season.

Moffat was thrown a rugby lifeline two years ago when Matt Williams, the former Scotland coach, called him out to Australia as injury cover for the 2004 tour. The full-back, who had won three Test caps by then, had been released by Glasgow and was considering quitting rugby, but Steve Bates stepped in with a two-year deal at the Borders.

Moffat, 28, played once more for Scotland after the tour but has since dropped out of the reckoning.

Having been pushed to the fringes of the national side, Moffat has been persuaded him to think about other opportunities. He said: "It has always been an ambition of mine to play rugby in France, so this was impossible to turn down."
