Blue in Silence an upcoming rock band is now going to record three songs with Coleton Paskert, audio engineer and producer at Kat Jazz Studio, Chicago. The band will also share stage with French band Betty Argo on June 26 at Nepal Academy Hall for the final concert of Alliance Francaise in Kathmandu’s (AFK) Fete de la Musique. And all these have been possible after the band won the AFK Music Contest on June 22.

Blue in Silence comprising drummer Anmol Mohora, Sakriya Mohora on guitar, Suraj Malla on vocal and acoustic, Nirmal Gurung on bass and Arnesh Lama on keyboard won hearts at the contest. “Blue in Silence is a very tight band with powerful musicality and depth of knowledge about music,” shared one of the jury members Arun Gurung, manager of Kutumba.

The winning performance included Cross Fire by Steve Ray Vaughan and their compositions titled Nasodha and Come in with the Rain. While Nasodha was more of a slow number, Come in with the Rain with its upbeat tunes was able to rock the evening. Out of five bands who had taken part in the competition, Pralaya Band was the first runner-up, while Power House was declared second runner-up.

Each band performed three different tracks — two original compositions and one cover song. With Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze, Power House stirred feelings among the audience. Their self compositions Sabai Thikai Thiyo and Zindagi ta Chalirahancha were equally good. Though amateurs, each band performed like a pro on stage. The performances were judged on musicality, rhythm, tones, knowledge of instrument, dynamic, composition, presence on stage and intonation.

Bassist of Power House, Srijan Man Nakarmi shared, “We either win or lose, it doesn’t matter since we got a chance to stand in front of such a good crowd.”

Shedding light on AFK’s celebration of music, director Elisa Tassin informed, “Celebration of music day started from France in 1981. Following the tradition this programme gives platform for new comers.”
