Music Museum of Nepal & Alliance Francaise is organising a film festival on folk music

KATHMANDU, July 11, 2011 - Music Museum of Nepal (NFMIM) in support with Alliance Francaise in Kathmandu (AFK) is organising the first ever International folk Music Film Festival 2011.

At a press meet that took place on July 11 at AFK, Tripureshwor, it was announced that the festival with the theme ‘Music for Life, Music for survival’ will be held from November 25 to 27 and the screening will take place at Nach Ghar, Jamal and Nepal Folk Music Instrument Museum, Tripureshwor.

“Folk music has been suppressed all over the world and not just in Nepal,” expressed Ram Prasad Kadel, founder of NFMIM after the press meet. “We are organising this festival for togetherness of folk music and to spread the message that it should be included in the education curriculum,” he cited the reason for organising the first ever folk music film festival.

The films that will be screened in the three-day festival are documentaries about folk music of various countries. Along with other categories there will also be ‘Audience award Trophy’ where a movie will be announced winner based on audience vote. It was also informed that the selected movies from this festival will be screened in 75 places of the country after the festival.

According to Kadel they have already received films from 25 countries and they are expecting

to receive some films from 25 more countries. So far, they have films from India, Japan and Argentina among others. “We are getting entries from Nepal also,” he added. — Agencies
