13 more parties recognized

KATHMANDU, Jan 30 2008 - The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday recognized 13 new political parties allowing them to contest the upcoming Constituent Assembly elections. Following this decision a total of 74 political parties have been recognized by the EC for the election.

Issuing a statement the EC said all 13 new parties have also been given their election symbols.

Tarai-Madhesh Democratic Party received yoked oxen as its election symbol while election symbols have also been given to Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekta Samaj (Sudarshan Chakra), Mangol National Organization (rooster), Nepal Samyabadi Dal (Karuwa), Nepal Pariwar Dal (key),

Nepa Rastriya Party (sword), Nepal Loktantrik Samajbadi Dal (pen), Nepal Sukumbasi Party (Loktantrik) (wicker

basket), Nepal Dalit Shramik Morcha (kite), Tamsaling Nepal Rastriay Dal (drum), Newa Nepal Prajatantrik Party (bell), Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Manch (Khukuri with sheath) and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Madhes) (Charkha).
