Deuba against PLA-NA integration

 -  Southasian Media

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 30 2008 - Former prime minister and Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said today PLA soldiers could not be integrated into the Nepal Army.

Speaking to mediapersons at the Biratnagar airport this evening, he said, “There is no such instance in the world of rebel forces being interegrated into the national army. However, there could be other ways to settle the issue of PLA fighters.”

He said as the erstwhile liberation army, who had fought against the 1950 revolution against Rana regime, was not integrated into the then national army, the integration of the PLA into NA was not possible.

He said it was too early to talk about mobilisation of the NA for the CA polls since Nepal Police could handle the job if mobilised in an efficient way.
He, however, said the NA could be mobilised with the consent of the seven parties.

“It seems Maoist cadres are under the command of the central leadership as they are still continuing excesses in rural areas and are responsible for the violence they commit,” he said.

He claimed that the king had been plotting against the Constituent Assembly polls and would leave the country after the election.
