Maoists to form commission to return confiscated properties

 -  Kantipur

Kathmandu, Jan 27 2008 - CPN-Maoist Sunday formally decided to return the properties they had confiscated during the decade long armed insurgency.

The Maoist Central Secretariat meeting held at the party head office in Buddhanagar Sunday decided to form a commission within 2 to 3 days to speed up the task of returning the seized properties.

Seven parties had reached a consensus to form 6 commissions, including truth and reconciliation and commission concerning the disappeared ones, and return the confiscated properties by 22nd January.

Today’s meeting also stressed on the immediate implementation of the 23-point agreement forged among the seven major political parties.

It also directed each of its district units to recommend three names each for names of the party candidates for the Constituent Assembly elections.

The district units have been asked to recommend three names on a proportional basis for both first-past-the-post and proportional electoral systems, Maoist central secretariat member Post Bahadur Bogati told reporters after the meeting.

The party would finalise the candidates by February 12 after it receives all the recommended names, he added.

The meeting also decided to induct some members in the party’s state committees and promote some of the incumbent members.

Maoist second in-command Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai informed that the party manifesto for CA elections will be prepared by mid-February.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML has decided to finalise a draft of the party’s manifesto for the CA elections.

A meeting of the panel formed to draft the manifesto held at the UML head office today decided to finalise the document and submit it to the party’s central committee meeting due to start in the next few days.
