Leader of Nepal's largest political party favors deploying army during CA election

Jan 26 2008 - Sushil Koirala, acting President of Nepali Congress (NC), the largest political party of Nepal, Friday said that the government should deploy Nepali Army personnel to ensure a free and fair Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

The Army personnel had been deployed in the past for maintaining peace and security during elections time, the trend should be continued for the CA polls, the NC leader was quoted by local media house's website eKantipur as saying on Friday.

During a press conference held in restive Siraha district of Kathmandu, Koirala invited the armed agitating groups, including Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) (Terai People's Liberation Front in English) led by various fractions, to negotiating table to institutionalize the democracy.

He claimed that the government was ready to create a favorable and secure environment for dialogue.
