    53 companies in Nepse's A group

    KATHMANDU, Feb 9 - In an annual credit rating of Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd (Nepse), of the total 127 listed companies in the stock market, 53 have been bracketed in its list of A group for the fiscal year 2005/06.
    As per the criteria laid down by the Nepse, companies are required to earn profit for the last three straight years, to have paid-up capital of at least 20 million rupees, and have at least 1,000 equity share holders in order to fall in the list of A group company.

    Also, they must have book value of the shares higher than paid up value and must submit the annual financial report within six months of the beginning the fiscal year.

    According to a release issued at the press conference held here today by the Nepse, aside from Nepal Lever Ltd, all the companies to be listed in the A group are from the financial sector.

    The companies in the list of A group are NABIL Bank, Nepal Investment Bank, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal, Himalayan Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Everest Bank, Bank of Kathmandu, Nepal Industrial and Commercial Bank, Machhapuchhre Bank, Laxmi Bank, and Kumari Bank.

    Likewise, Development Credit Bank, National Life and General Insurance Co., Everest Insurance Co., Himalayan Gen Insurance Co. Ltd, United Insurance Co. (Nepal), Premier Insurance Co. Ltd, Alliance Insurance Company Ltd, Neco Insurance, Sagarmatha Insurance, Nepal Life Insurance Co., and Life Insurance Com. (Nepal) are also listed in the A group. 

    The other companies in the A group include National Finance, Kathmandu Finance, Citizen Investment Trust, Nepal Aawas Bikas Beeta, Mahalaxmi Finance, Paschimanchal Finance, Universal Finance, Goodwill Finance, Lumbini Finance and Leasing company, Nepal Merchant Banking and Finance, Narayani Finance, Siddhartha Finance, and Alpic Everest Finance.

    United Finance, International Leasing and Finance, Union Finance Co, Shree Investment and finance, Premier Finance, Butwal Finance, Nawa Durga finance, Janaki Finance, Om Finance, Peoples Finance, Gorkha Finance, Cosmic Merchant Banking and Finance, Central Finance Company, and Standard Finance are also included in the list of A group.

    Nepse also put Fewa Finance Co., World Merchant Banking and Finance, Lalitpur Finance, and Unilever Nepal Ltd in the A group. 

     Speaking at the press conference, Mukunda Dhungel, acting general manager of Nepse said classification of the companies will help potential investors to choose the right company for investment.
