    Consolations win for Nepal

KATHMANDU, Feb 9 - Nepal registered a morale boosting win over Ireland, ahead of the plate championship matches in the last match of group ‘D’ of the ICC U-19 World cup in Sri Lanka.
The win over Ireland by 60 runs has come after some superb display of batting from man of the match Sharad Vesawkar who made 82.  He was supported well by Paras Khadra (47) and Captain Kanishka Chaugai who made a fiery 40.

Despite the performance of (3-43) by Niall McDarby, who continued with his good run with the ball  after his 6-50 against England, Nepal produced their highest total of the tournament  It was then to the Nepali bowlers who held on to their killer instinct to make short work of the Irish Batsmen.

Keshari was the pick of the Nepali Bowlers who claimed 2 wickets at the expense of just 26 runs in his 7.3 overs. Rauniyar (2-40) and Parash Khadka (1-25) were also impressive in a  match which was not more than a mere formality; both teams having been already knocked out of the tournament.

Nepali innings of 234 must have come as a great relief to Ireland as Nepal was 188-3 at some stage. However, their hope of capitalizing on the occasion soon ran away when the Nepali bowlers proved their ability once again.

In the Irish innings, KJG Morgan’s classy 86 paled as Ireland succumbed to the Nepali bowling strength. No other Irish batsmen could make substantial contribution to the teams’ total.

This win for the promising cricketers of Nepal has certainly come as a respite to their current loosing streak; something they are not used to in the recent days

Much can be expected from them in the plate championship as it is noteworthy that Nepal had shot to fame from the last World cup’s plate championship.
