    Maoists not shying away from CA polls: Mahara

    Sept 15 2007 - Minister for Information and Communications Krishna Bahadur Mahara said Thursday that the CPN- Maoist was not shying away from the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls and the party had made public 22-points to help create a conducive atmosphere for polls.

    Speaking at a daylong seminar organized by Nepal Engineering Infrastructure Development Society (NEIDS) Minister Mahara said that the Maoist party was discussing with senior leaders of the seven parties about creating groundwork for the polls.

    "The seven parties are not positive about our 22-point demands and discussions are going on with the other parties," he added, "If the legitimate parliament did not declare republic before CA polls, we would have no alternate than to launch fresh movement."

    Minister Mahara also said that they might quit the government by September 18 if the government failed to address the 22-point demands.

    However, he also said the Maoist party was reconsidering the decision of quitting the government.

    He said that the parties would have no moral ground to go to the people before addressing the issues of disappeared people, martyrs and wounded of the people's war.

    He said that the technocrats should be included in all state mechanisms and there should be a post of at least one engineer in each VDC.

    Local Development Minister Dev Gurung asked for mobilization of all engineers for reforming the society.

    Minister of State for Water Resources Gyanendra Bahadur Karki emphasized on the importance of CA polls and said slogans of new Nepal will not be possible until the CA polls were held successfully.

    Senior Engineer Rameshwor Man Amatya, K. B. Rokaya, Dipendra Chhetri, Purna Kadariya, secretary at Ministry of Physical Planing and Works, Lok Bahadur Raut, president of NEIDS and general secretary Anant Gurung also spoke at the seminar.
