Timely polls to boost Nepalís image in intíl arena: PM

Sept 01 2007 - Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has reiterated that the Constituent Assembly elections must be held on November 22 to heighten Nepal’s image in the international level.
Addressing an orientation programme organized by the Home Ministry at the Armed Police Force Headquarters at Halchowk on Saturday, the Prime Minister appealed to all the political parties, organizations and civil society to become responsible for that.

He also directed the security agencies to work actively to bolster the security situation for free and fair elections.

The Home Ministry plans to hold such orientation programmes in the other four regions of the country, as well. Election officers, representatives of various professional and rights organizations will also involved in such programmes.

CEC unhappy over delayed code
Speaking at the programme, Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokharel expressed dissatisfaction over delay in enforcing the election code of conduct due to the government’s shortcomings.

He urged the government and the parties to create an environment to enforce the code at the earliest.

“The commission will strictly enforce the code of conduct,” the chief election commissioner said. “Please don’t think that the commission is being harsh.”
