Pralay wreaks havoc on NRT

KATHMANDU, Feb 4 - Defending champion Nabil Three Star Club retained pole position with a 1-0 victory over New Road Team (NRT) in the Martyr's Memorial ANFA-SanMiguel National League at the Dashrath Stadium today.
Pralay Rajbhandari scored the winner in the 41st minute after receiving a free-kick from fellow defender Anjan KC. It was his third attack, with the earlier two overhead kicks narrowly missing the nets. Three Star dominated the whole match and squandered many goalscoring opportunities.

Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) re-claimed the second position from Mahendra Police Club (MPC) after two first half goals proved enough to beat Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT). In other matches played at Armed Police Force Ground, Halchowk, Friends' Club defeated Machhindra Football Club 2-0 while Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) beat Sankata by identical scoreline.

For MMC, Nabin Neupane opened the scoring on a perfect cross from Nurudeen Salau in the 40th minute. Nurudeen netted the other six minutes later in the injury time on Basanta Gauchan's feed to make it 2-0 before the break. In the second half, MMC failed to score despite making a few moves.

MMC and TAC now have 56 points - a point ahead of MPC - while Three Star is two points clear with 58. All have played 24 games. Down the table, Friends' is now 11th with 24 points. Machhindra has 19 points and is just a spot above relegation zone on goal-difference.

The win came as a big relief for Friends' which was reeling under the pressure of probable relegation. Bijay Mahat was the creator of both the goals. He first set Shreeram Shrestha in the 62nd minute after dribbling past two defenders and fed Felix Akizono, who headed the second beautifully.

Shiva Chaudhary and Santosh Nepali scored one each for TAC. Shiva's shot deflected off Sankata defender Santosh Basnet into the nets for the first goal while Santosh Nepali netted the second three minutes from the half-time break on a powerful shot from penalty box capitalizing on a mistake by Sankata goalie Sangeet Rajak.
