Lucky MPC wins

KATHMANDU, Feb 1 - Mahendra Police Club (MPC) veteran Dev Narayan Chaudhary proved his worth once again fashioning a hard-earned 1-0 victory over in-form New Road Team (NRT) in the Martyr's Memorial SanMiguel National League Football on Tuesday at the Dashrath Stadium.
The win brought MPC's title challenge back on track while Boys' Union Club (BUC) almost came out of the relegation threat with a thumping 3-0 win over Machhindra Football Club.

BUC now is 11th with 22 points. In the day's other matches, Sankata beat mid-table Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) 1-0 and Jawalakhel  Youth Club (JYC) recorded its seventh draw in the event with a 1-1 draw against Gyanendra APF.

MPC is now tied with Nabil Three Star Club at the top with 52 points. Only goal difference separates the teams but Three Star has a match in hand. Machhindra is in relegation zone along with the other promoted club Bouddha and NRT is holding its sixth position intact. APF is fifth, five points ahead of NRT.

Dev Narayan scored an injury-time goal after entering the filed as second half substitute in the eventful match. For NRT, Yugal Kishor Rai missed a chance on open nets after goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa was beaten – thanks to experienced Rakesh Shrestha who injured his knee in the goal-saving attempt. Yugal was also replaced after banging his head with Ritesh in the second half.

For BUC, African savior Mark D Afam scored a brace while Hari Thakuri scored a late goal to demolish Machhindra.

Afam capitalized on defensive blunder in the 17th minute to score his first followed by a header off Bhuwan Lama's freekick nine minutes later. Hari consolidated the score on Utsav KC's supply in the 81st minute.

BUC was reduced to 10 men for the last 28 minutes after goalie Amir Byanjankar was red-carded for deliberately handling the ball outside the penalty area.

Earlier, a string of heroics from goalie Deepak Dangol, who saved a Rishi Rai penalty, helped Sankata win. Rajkumar Ghising scored the only goal of the match in the ninth minute. Dangol's heroics ended abruptly when he had to be taken to hospital after being hit by Rishi's boot on chest while gathering the ball in the 78th minute.

JYC shared points after African Abdul Gani headed one in the 73rd minute off Dipesh Thapa's cross. The goal was a big relief for Dipesh, who had deflected Raghu Prajapati's corner into his own nets in the 25th minute.
