    MPC drops points against RCT

KATHMANDU, Jan 30 - Mahendra Police Club (MPC) missed the opportunity to go to the top of the table as it settled for a goalless draw against spirited Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) in the Martyr's Memorial ANFA SanMiguel National League Football Tournament on Sunday at the Dashrath Stadium.
In other matches, New Road Team (NRT), Friends' Club and Armed Police Force (APF) registered victories. Brigade Boys Club's Nigerian star Obagbemiro Junior became the highest scorer of the league netting one against APF.

He now has 20 goals - a goal ahead of Basanta Thapa.

MPC would have gone two points clear of Nabil Three Star Club if it had defeated RCT, but that didn't happen. MPC now has 49 points, equal to that of the defending champion which has a game in hand.

Sunday’s win helped Friends' put the relegation danger at bay as the team moves two spots up to the 11th with 21 points. APF once again remains the team behind the top four while Sankata and BBC are at the eighth and 10th positions respectively.

Earlier, NRT continued its good performance registering its eighth win after Dashain break defeating Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) 5-0 in a lopsided affair.

JYC, playing without three regular players, had to suffer earlier from the blunders of Barun Chand. His miscued clearances resulted in the first two goals - one each from Yugal Kishore Rai and Sunil Subedi in the 14th and 22nd minutes respectively.

Sunil added one more before the break heading one easily in the 38th minute.

Binod Lama's goal in the 59th and an injury time goal from Yugal ended the match. JYC and MPC were both playing their second match in less than 24 hours.

At Halchowk, Ganesh Lawati drew first blood for APF in the 34th minute off a Sudeep Shrestha feed. Junior scored off a free kick in the penultimate minute of the match.

But the match came to dramatic finish as Kumar Sunwar handled the ball inside the penalty area seconds before the final whistle and Dhan Bir Chaudhary scored the winner.

Earlier, Friends' Nigerian recruit Chuke Oceti and Chandra Tamang scored one apiece to earn three points for their struggling club.
