    Junior ends NRT's Honeymoon

KATHMANDU, Jan 28 - Brigade Boys Club (BBC) striker Obagbemiro Junior got a brace to end New Road Team's (NRT) honeymoon with a comprehensive 2-0 win today while Rishi Rai led Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) in the 2-0 beating of Friends' Club (FC) in the two matches of the league played at Halchowk. At Dashrath Stadium, defending champion Nabil Three Star Club (TSC) strengthened its hold on the pole position with a 2-0 win over troubled Machhindra Football Club while Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) secured an unconvincing 1-0 win over Mahabir Club.
The Nigerian striker for BBC has now equalled Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) striker Basanta Thapa, who has now left for Japan, as the highest scorer of the league this season with 19 goals. Rishi Rai of RCT is also making a steady progress

in the individual goal tally to reach the second spot with 17 goals so far.

NRT's 10-match undefeated streak ended with today's defeat against BBC while the latter ensured its stay at the 'A' Division with 23 points.

TAC replaced Mahendra Police Club (MPC) at the second position of the league standing with 47 points. TSC has 49 points at the top while BBC remains at the 10th with 23 points. NRT remained unmoved at the sixth spot with 36 points despite the loss followed by RCT with 33. Friends', Machhindra and Mahabir remain struggling at the bottom. Friends' has 18 followed by Machhindra with 16 and Mahabir 15.

The 21-year Nigerian once again proved too hot to handle for NRT defenders but more than the defenders, the strikers should take the blame for the loss as Sunil Subedi and company, sans premier striker Yugal Kishor Rai, missed a handful of chances with weak finishes.

After a goalless first half Junior found a golden opportunity in the 56th minute in a one-on-one ball against NRT goalie Surendra Shrestha and finished it clinically for the first goal.

Similar opportunity for Junior came in the 63rd minute when NRT defender Kamal Bista unluckily overran a long ball from BUC goalie Ramesh Rana.

Junior was not one to miss the opportunity as he netted the ball on the second bar to give BBC its seventh win in the league which, according to coach Suman Yonjan, was crucial for his 'good but inconsistent' team.

In the other match, Friends' Club could hardly make any decent post attempts against RCT that ran away with three points with a 2-0 win. Rishi Rai was the hero of the match with two goals to his name.

Rishi showed his value for RCT scoring the first goal off a long ball from Sulav Rana in the 34th minute. It was a brilliant unexpected attempt from the right flank as Friends' goalie Rajeev Shrestha was completely unaware and watched the ball sail past him into the nets.

The second Rishi goal was even better as he made a long run with the ball along the midfield, dodged two defenders from the left and netted on the second bar with ease.

Later on the day at the Dashrath Stadium, champion Nabil Three Star Club continued its winning run to maintain pole position beating Machhindra FC 2-0.

Surendra Tamang scored both the first-half goals in the 17th and 25th minutes. With the brace, Surendra completed 17 goals in the league to tie with Rishi Rai.

Surendra headed home his opener in the 16th minute when Pradeep Maharjan supplied him a well-placed pass at the centre. Though, the header was not that powerful, rookie goalkeeper Ramesh Thapamagar failed to hold on to the ball allowing it to travel inside the net. Thapamagar replaced veteran Binod Dangol as per the rotation policy of the club.

The 2005 League's best striker completed his double in the 25th minute driving it between the legs of the Machhindra defender Suleman Olansile utilizing Bisan Gauchan's feed. This time again the culprit was Machhindra goalie Thapamagar. Three Star went on attacking but had poor luck as it found the woodwork thrice in the second half. Machhindra had a close look early in the second half but experienced Upendra Man Singh did well to block Bikash Subba's header.

Earlier at the same ground, TAC had to toil hard to beat relegation-bound Mahabir FC 1-0. Captain Janamat Karki

scored the only goal in the 30th minute.
