    Yugal powers NRT to victory

KATHMANDU, Jan 25 - New Road Team (NRT) is getting better with every match of the Martyrs' Memorial SanMiguel National Football League and it comfortably beat struggling Machhindra FC 4-1 on Tuesday at the Dashrath Stadium.
Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) came out from the series of frustrating results beating fellow struggler Brigade Boys Club (BBC) 4-2 and Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) pushed Mahabir Club further down in the relegation zone with a thumping 4-0 win on the day which produced 15 goals in three matches.

Ever improving young striker Yugal Kishor Rai was instrumental in NRT's big win scoring a brilliant hat trick which keeps NRT breathing down the neck of the fifth-placed Gyanendra APF.

NRT holds the sixth position with 36 points – a point behind the debutante APF Club. The win over BBC was a huge sigh of relief to JYC coach Megh Raj KC whose team has accumulated 24 points to stay at the ninth position. RCT leapfrogged cross-town rival Sankata Sports Club at the seventh position.

The day's hero Yugal put NRT in front as early as in the eighth minute with a mesmerizing solo effort that saw him dribbling past a Machhindra defender before slotting home from a tight angle. “We are realistically chasing the title and for that we only hope that big clubs' continue their dismal form,” Coach Raju Kaji Shakya said.

Yugal's second came a minute into the second half when he repeated his first goal effort but this time he gained much space to strike a powerful drive past Machhindra goalie Binod Dangol from inside the penalty area.

Left back Kamal Bista set NRT's third goal by passing the ball to Sunil Subedi, who instead of taking the shot himself, offered it to unmarked Ramesh Sinkeman to take the match away from the minnows.

Meanwhile, Machhindra pulled one back through Bikash Subba's strike but Yugal stamped NRT's authority with his 15th goal of the league when keeper Dangol failed to clear a Sunil Subedi shot and he tapped in for his first hat trick of the league.

Elsewhere at Halchowk, Rishi Rai's brace and a goal each from Sudip Limbu and second half substitute Sajan Shrestha piled on Mahabir's misery. Mahabir has only accumulated three points from last six matches and is second from bottom with 15 points. Rishi fired Mahabir goalie's clearance off Rajan Gauchan shot to break the ice in the 56th minute.

Sudip Limbu made it 2-0 in the 66th minute utilizing a nice pass from Steve Lepcha. Likewise, Rishi made it 3-0 in the 75th minute and substitute Sajan scored the killer blow in the 85th minute.

JYC began from where it ended against Bouddha as it managed a hard-fought 4-2 win in the Jawalakhel derby with BBC.

Abdul Ghani Olawale set a beautiful ball to Doran Sherchan to open JYC's account in the fifth minute but BBC replied instantly with Obagbemiro Junior netting his 17th goal of the league in the 12th minute. Sunil Rawat headed JYC in to lead two minutes later and in the 18th minute Abdul joined the goalscoring feast with a powerful 20-yard drive.

Akash Chhantyal's stunning volley reduced the deficit to 3-2 for BBC but Doran offered no room to BBC scoring a clean header in the 74th minute. BBC players found the woodwork thrice in the match. 'Our defenders were too weak,' said BBC coach Suman Yonjan.
